The summer research scholar program at the Center for Discovery and Innovation offers an immersive experience in academic research. If you have a passion for science, a curious mind, and a desire to contribute to groundbreaking projects, this program is tailor-made for you.

Each year, we provide comprehensive training to nearly 40 passionate individuals through our Summer Research Scholar Program. As a Research Scholar, you will have the chance to actively engage with our laboratory staff and assist in executing research techniques, contribute to data collection and entry, and play a role in compiling essential study documents.

Eligibility

Our Summer Research Scholar Program welcomes students who are eager to learn, contribute, and make the most of this exciting opportunity. If you're driven by curiosity and motivated to make a difference, we encourage you to apply.

Specific criteria include

  • High school and college students above the age of 16 are eligible to apply. Students under the age of 18 will require parental or guardian consent to be part of the program (Consent Form PDF).
  • Some prior analytical and research experience are preferable but are not a requirement.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • All volunteers must work a minimum of 25 hours per week.
  • All volunteers must be cleared by the HMH Volunteer Office before they can come to the lab.
  • All volunteers must clock in and out daily.
  • All volunteers must attend an orientation and safety training (multiple sessions will be offered).
  • No stipends will be offered.

Application Process

Applying is straightforward. Simply submit a Pre-Application Form, including a short statement of interest and any relevant qualifications.

Promising candidates will be invited to submit a Volunteer Application through the HMH Volunteer Office which includes a detailed application form, background check and medical clearance. Once your application is approved you will receive an email communication with a confirmation and PIN number (which is needed for check-in)

  • Use the PIN provided to clock in and clock out each day you are volunteering.
  • Volunteers have weekly/biweekly lunch and learn sessions with experts and faculty within CDI. Please RSVP your attendance with Alex, so she can plan the logistics accordingly.

  • End date for the program: Friday, August 15, 2025

A similar schedule can be expected for year 2026.
